How a dutch works

Each pick gets a slice of the stake in line with its implied chance: shorter prices take more money, longer ones less. Whichever of your picks comes in, you collect the same amount. You only lose the lot if none of them land.

Stake on a pick = total stake × (1 ÷ its odds) ÷ (sum of 1 ÷ every pick's odds)

The home side are clear ELO favourites, but their recent games have been tight. You like a narrow home win and put £50 across 1-0 at 7.0, 2-0 at 9.0 and 2-1 at 8.5. The split is £19.22, £14.95 and £15.83. Any of the three scores returns £134.55, an £84.55 profit.

Your combined book is 37.16%, which is the same as backing one outcome at 2.69. Three scorelines, one price.

Getting it right

  • •Watch the book %. Once your picks add up past 100%, even a winner pays back less than you staked. Keep it well under.
  • •Every pick costs you. Each extra selection makes a win likelier and the payout smaller. Only add an outcome you genuinely think can land.
  • •It shines in-play. Splitting a next-goalscorer stake between two strikers once you've seen who is getting the chances beats guessing before kick-off.
  • •Cover the draw. Not sure your side wins but sure they won't lose? Dutch your team and the draw: two outcomes, one return, and only one result beats you.
  • •Mix bookmakers freely. Take the best price on each pick wherever it is. The maths works the same.
